January 31, 2012

Oi Gente,

How is it going? Well I am finally on the Island! This place is sick!! I love the Vinyard so much already. I've had some crazy stuff happening so I'll tell you a bit about it. This past week we had transfers so I packed up all my crap haha a lot of stuff who knew I could accumulate so much crap ;) but I packed it all up this last Wednesday and went to bed about 12 because I had to clean a lot of clothes and stuff from p-day. But I got it all packed up and went to bed. I woke up at 4:30 to shower and get ready to drive up to transfers at 5:45. We ended up leaving and before I left I decided to check the air pressure in the tires. One of the tires was super low so I started to fill it up. Then the freakin stem of the tire came OFF and all the air leaked out. So we are sitting there at a gas station suppose to be leaving to transfers for the 2 and 1/2 hour drive when all the we now have a half hour tire fix to perform. This Dodge Carivan sucks because the spare is right under the car and we have to do all this stuff to get it out. We ended up fixing the tire and putting the spare on and left at about 6:50 I drove the whole way while everyone slept as normal haha and we got there 15 min before the meeting started. It was an intense drive up haha.
Transfer meeting was awesome all of my "Children" and "Grand Children" and even one "Great Grand Child" from the missionaries I trained! So we took a pic but I didn't have my camera so I'll have to get it sent to me by elder Dantas.

I'm serving with an Elder Packer.. He is a cool guy he is from Ohio and he served in Brazil for 5 months and he served in Chicago for 3 months. He has been here in this mission for 3 transfers and all of it has been here in the Vinyard. So all in all he has had 3 missions and 20 companions haha he is a super cool guy though we get along well.. One more story we were contacting an Investigator 2 nights ago and he was watching Dawn of the Dead which is a zombie movie... we'll we talked to him and set up an appointment after we went and knocked some doors.. On the last door there was a cat so I started petting it and it was real nice.. the man rejected us hard haha so we left and crossed the street.. we'll the cat followed me and I pet it some more while waiting for the bus.. I made the comment to elder packer that it was a nice cat but it will probably be hit by a car because no one is taking care of it... I then said we'll I probably wouldn't even be phased if it did get hit then no joke 2 seconds after the comment the cat ran across the street and got destroyed a car!!! It was so so so so SAD.. Needless to say it was dying in the street crying and I was totally Phased!!!! It sucked so bad. But I know he is probably in a better place. So these are my first two days in the Vinyard.... We have 15 members about and it is tiny tiny!! But it should be fun Elder Packer and I taught a man last night in portuguese and it was super fun... I'm doing a lot better speaking! Elder Packer speaks well so we speak together all the time. I felt the spirit so strong during the lesson when we talked about Joseph Smith's first vision.. without fail everytime I testify about it the spirit is strong. I love the knowledge we have. I love you all and I'll be talking to you next TUESDAY :)

love,

Elder Jonny Burton
