Well this was a great week but I will get into that a bit later. I'm so happy to hear from you all. Not going to lie I get butterflies when I first get to the Library because I know I'm waiting to hear about my loved friends and family! It sounds like you all had a lot of fun this week with Tricia being home for the weekend and Marshall and Tanner visiting. I loved the pictures you sent :) Thank you
So this week went really really well. I love this area because we have the best members ever. This branch is by far is the best functioning unit of the church I have personally served in, And its a Spanish branch which you don't see very often. The member just get the picture here. They focus on missionary work because they know that it's "the life blood of the church" - Elder Zwick. Our branch councils are amazing. We had an activity this past week for all of our members and their friends. Where we have this "plane crash" and we take all in the plane through the kingdoms of glory. It was super stressful because it was a lot of work and the missionaries put it together but it worked amazing. We have over 100 people come and go thought the activity. We had our only investigator come named Jonathan and he loved it... He came to church the next day and also to a baptism that the Spanish Elders of the branch had. He will be coming over to eat with our Brazilian members tonight so I really hope he continues to do well. We found another Brazilian lady named Caroline this week as well. She is super chill haha totally Brazilian. We taught her a good first lesson but I really unfortunately don't speak Portuguese that well...but she definitely felt the Spirit.
Also here is a funny story haha this may not be appropriate for children under 13... or for my blog but your choice..... So we eat at a lot of Spanish speaking members houses... So i have to kind of speak Spanish to them haha more like Portunol (Portuguese and Spanish) but anyways I know some words in Portuguese and some other words in Spanish that I get mixed up. Well Elder Bishop and I have been doing competitions with each other to see at members houses who can eat the hottest Chile they have or pepper. The word for spicy in Spanish is Pica ( correct me if I'm wrong tanner) So we say that word a lot at these dinner appointments. We'll we went and ate at a Brazilians house (which I feel way more comfortable speaking with them) and I was telling them in Portuguese about our competitions. I said the following to them in Portuguese " Comemos um pica chile ontem a noite" which I thought meant we ate a spicy pepper haha but the word Pica in Portuguese is a slang word for Penis that I already knew before speaking so when I said it I instantly knew what I said... Well know every time I see them they ask me how the pica is... haha but the wife of this family has been super cold and stiff to the missionaries in the past but now she is super nice and open with us haha so it worked out for the best I guess haha funny story but :)
I love you all and I love this work.. I can't wait to see all of you and give you big hugs but until them!!!
Love,
Elder Burton
